Top 7 Ways To Improve Your Digestive System To Lose Weight More Efficiently

No one wants to talk about the digestive system, and probably because it's associated with poopie.......sorry, my kids made me type it! Seriously though, making sure your digestive system is running strong can not only significantly help you lose weight, but obviously with improvement of your overall health.

How does your digestive system relate to losing weight?

Well, your digestive system is linked to your metabolism. Your metabolism is responsible for burning off calories (that's the quick and easy definition of metabolism). Simply put, the better your digestive system is, the stronger your metabolism is. The stronger your metabolism is, the more calories and fat your body will naturally burn.

What are 7 ways to improve my digestive system?

1. Eat more frequently: By eating more frequently through out the day, you're keeping your digestive system active. Not only that, you will also control cravings and hunger by eating more smaller frequent meals. Begin with breakfast and have a small meal every 2-3 hours after.

2. Increase fibrous veggies (green): Increasing the amount of green veggies you eat obviously will help you with your overall health and weight loss, but doing so will also help your digestive system. This is because of the fiber in green vegetables. The more healthy fiber you consume, the more active your digestive system will be.

3. Eat slower: This is twofold. Firstly, make sure you take your time to consume your meals. Secondly, chew your food slowly. By not devouring your meals, you are allowing your digestive system to properly digest the foods you are eating. When you chew more slowly, you allow the enzymes from your saliva to breakdown the food you are eating and also get rid of bacteria.

4. Hydrate: Drinking plenty of water daily (1/2 your body weight in ounces is recommended) is great for losing weight, building muscle, and improving your digestive system. Now, on the flip side, too much alcohol, caffeine, and soda consumption will dehydrate your body. This can lead to constipation and obviously a lot more complications.

5. Prebiotic and probiotic: Consume foods and liquids daily containing prebiotics and probiotics. A good example of prebiotics would be organic Apple Cider Vinegar, and a good example of probiotic would be fat free probiotic yogurt.

6. Detoxify: Doing a complete body detoxification will cleanse out your entire body along with your colon. Here are two detox programs that you can start on immediately to cleanse your body:

7. Increase fiber intake: This is the most common solution to improve your digestive system. Some examples of healthy fiber choices are apples, beans, lentils, quinoa, whole grains, etc.

In closing:

I want to reiterate how important it is for you to stay hydrated for good digestion. I found this out the hard way myself a few years ago. I didn't drink plenty of water daily, but consumed plenty of coffee and beer. On top of that, I worked hard outdoors and exercised which obviously led to perspiring profusely. Because of that, I was unbelievably constipated for quite some time....along with a myriad of other problems which led me to start my healthy lifestyle.

So, make sure you understand that drinking plenty of water daily should be the number one solution on your list, not just to improve your digestive system, but for EVERYTHING pertaining to your health and well being.
