chart healths and fitness

Vacations have been terrible for my weight loss in the past and our recent trip to Las Vegas certainly didn’t help. In fact, when I got home on Sunday afternoon, the scale said 192.0 pounds, up from 189.6. I wasn’t happy with the weight gain, but I also wasn’t discouraged. After all, I spent 4 days mostly eating and sitting instead of exercising and counting calories. Since my return, I’ve worked hard to get my weight back down and the damage from the trip has mostly been reversed. My average weight on Physics Diet is down to 191. So it’s steadily dropping slowly: Perfect!

I’ve been nagging Pam to take me to Vegas for a conference for a very long time. Finally, she relented when this conference was announced. She even gave up a race to attend a conference that she wasn’t very excited about. I definitely had a good time; I also enjoyed catching up with old friends and one of Pam’s cousins. It was a nice time. However, I quickly realized that I don’t really fit in in Las Vegas. The lights, showiness and excess are all things that I can’t really relate to any more. There once was a time when I liked to go to bars and drink and partake in other Vegas activities. But this time, I mostly felt cheap. I felt like I couldn’t justify the expense of the $14/day internet connection or the $22/day gym fees. So I didn’t pay them, and I didn’t work out.

I did a really great job (pre-Vegas) of getting my runs in last week. I pushed all of my days off to the end of the week so that I would only have to run one time on the trip. I saved the easy-paced long run for the trip and wasn’t able to motivate to get it done. So I was short 8 miles last week. I was under the impression that I would sacrifice a day off this week and get the 8-miler in. But Pam told me that was a bad idea and would increase my weekly mileage too much so I’ve decided that I’m just going to get back on track and follow the program this week. She’s a good coach.
