Youga confident Charlton will bounce back

KELLY Youga believes the improved form and team spirit at The Valley will give the Addicks a great chance of bouncing straight back into the Championship.

The Olympique Lyonnais academy graduate, 23, has established himself as a regular first-teamer at Charlton after several loan excursions since arriving in London in 2005.

And the left-back admits although Charlton have ultimately failed to survive, their improved displays since January have proved to the fans the squad have what it takes to make an immediate return to the second tier.

Youga said: “If we can keep this team together, we will be one of the best teams in the league if we go down because we have a lot of good players and a good experienced team.

“We don’t look like a team at the bottom of the league because we can keep the ball and we’ve been playing well even against the top teams.

“We’re going to keep fighting until the last game to show our fans and to show ourselves as well Charlton are a good team with good players.

“I don’t know if many players will leave as that is up to the club, but although we will probably be relegated, we will come back the following year.

“Who wouldn’t want to stay at Charlton?

“They are a good team and England has a good football style. It’s quick, it’s physical and I think if I went somewhere else I may be bored.”

Youga also paid tribute to the strength of character at the training ground throughout a testing season for the Addicks, in particular the presence of upbeat individuals such as Chris Dickson.

He added: “Every team has different personalities. Some of them are quiet, some of them are open-minded and some of them, like Chris Dickson, are always talking.

“It brings a good mood to the team that some players show their happiness every Saturday, such as Chris with his dancing, shouting and talking.

“Some players like to keep quiet so they can concentrate, but for Chris this is his way of concentrating.

“I think you need to respect each other because everybody should know how to prepare himself before the game.”
