Smoking and drinking in pregnancy are known to harm the unborn baby, but new research indicates that junk food may also take the life of the unborn.
According to the researchers, the Trans fats in the junk food like burgers, pies, cakes and biscuit could increase the danger of miscarriage by 52%.
The analysis found that hydrogenated fats, as they are described on food labels, increase the body’s resistance to the hormone insulin. In turn, this boosts the levels of a substance that has been shown to increase the risk of a miscarriage.
Experts say the trans fats should form a maximum of one per cent of an adult’s daily calories. The trans fats are already linked with heart disease and cancer and is banned in parts of America. Eating junk food daily increases the intake of these fats posing danger to the unborn child.
Earlier In June, experts warned that pregnant women who ate too much junk food increased their baby’s risk of obesity in life. It seems that a mother's diet whilst pregnant and breastfeeding is very important for the long-term health of her child.
